I partially disagree with this opinion. I completely understand attempting to undermine an existing union regarding a grave matter.

However, business owners have legal grounds to manage the company in what they deem is in the company's best interest. Employers have right to hire and terminate employees as they deem necessary. The employer is not even obligated to report why an employee is terminated. This doesn't constitute a mortal sin.

You imply a business owner is in violation of canon law and commits a mortal sin if they cannot afford to have a union form in the business they created. The employer created the business, provides jobs and pay for employees, and offers rewards for their general welfare.

Just because employees are not in agreement and the employer takes measures to ensure the viability of the business continues to exist doesn't mean the employer is damned to hell by mortal sin.

That Census Bureau report , saying that 50% of working families rely on child care providers, gives us parents cause for concern. We have to pick the best daycare center for our children. I read in this site - Daycare that daycare centers now provide early education skills for toddlers. The creative arts, including music, movement, dramatic play, puppetry, painting, sculpture, and drawing, are a crucial part of early childhood. Creative activity can enhance development of children's skills in literacy, science, math, social studies, and more. Thus, if we pick the right daycare center, our precious child's IQ, EQ, and personality will be enhanced. Check it out.

I was looking for someone else when I discovered your lovely reminder of my own garden on Locksley Avenue in North Oakland from 1972 until 1986.

While attending California College of Arts and Crafts I moved to a one-bedroom cottage with a small yard. Part of the yard had a raised bed where I grew corn, tomatoes, zucchini, basil and, each year, an experimental crop of decorative gourds or flowers for drying. An avocado tree produced nothing but shade outside my kitchen window. My Gravenstein apple tree was very productive but the Meyers lemon bush was temperamental. A grassy area was maintained for the pleasure of my dog, Cocoa. This continued to be a special part of my life after graduation and starting a career.

Cocoa and I took almost daily walks in the neighborhood. We often stopped to admire the large garden on Shafter. I never knew who it belonged to, but I loved it. So, it was your family that planted the roots.

Thank you and blessings,
Betty

I am still in shock and very sad that John Powers died. He taught me the meaning of what a true Christian person is because he was one himself. John was the kind of person who always had a kind word and a smile on his face, too. I am honest when I tell you that I miss him every day because he was always there for me no matter what the circumstances were. And, yes, John helped me to become closer to God. I do feel his presence and the spirit that he gave me when he was here. John Powers was a wonderful person and great friend. We called each other: "Brothers in Christ." I plan to use the things about life that he taught me and carry them with me wherever I go.
